When you begin a new game of Baldurs gate 2 before the initial torture sequence, it is possible to pause and put all your items on the floor. This allows you to bypass the destruction of equipment brought over from Baldurs gate 1 or from previous Baldur gate 2 save games. I might be 10 years late but what the hell! :)...
